Disaster / calamities

The collapses of buildings in our metropolitan cities have become a regular feature with frequent occurrencs, particularly during monsoon season. Most of these are mainly attributed to poor quality of construction, unauthorised extensions, structural alterations and no maintenance. In all these failures, the prime suspects are the builders, followed by municipal authorities who normally shed their responsibilites to the general public in monitoring the poor construction or maintenance, but only prompt in collecting property taxes. The residents of these buildings are sometimes blamed for the poor maintenance. One could say that the entire system is at fault at the cost of the general public.
